Position Summary
The Pharmacy Technician plays an important role in supporting high-quality, student-centered healthcare by performing a variety of technical and administrative functions that support the daily operations of the Student Health Services Pharmacy. federal regulations. The Pharmacy Technician works collaboratively with pharmacists, healthcare providers, and Student Health Services staff to provide efficient, accurate, and compassionate pharmacy services that promote the health, well-being, and academic success of SDSU students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process prescriptions by reviewing orders, entering prescription information, preparing medications, maintaining prescription records, and supporting pharmacist review.
- Perform cashiering and financial functions, including processing payments, reconciling daily transactions, and maintaining accurate financial records.
- Support pharmacy inventory by ordering medications and supplies, maintaining inventory records, receiving shipments, and removing expired or recalled products.
- Provide professional customer service by assisting students, responding to prescription inquiries, processing prescription pickups, and referring clinical questions to the pharmacist.
- Maintain compliance with pharmacy laws, university policies, HIPAA requirements, and quality standards while supporting safe and efficient pharmacy operations.
Position Information
- Full-time, benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
- Position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
- Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
- The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary
Student Health Services offers primary medical care and health promotion to students of San Diego State University through a wide range of programs and services. Care is provided by board certified physicians, certified nurse practitioners and other medical staff including nurses, clinical laboratory scientists, x-ray technologists, medical assistants, and pharmacists. In addition to the basic medical care, Student Health Services offers health education, orthopedics, osteopathic manipulative treatment and psychiatry.

Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent and the required education and training to be a registered Pharmacy Technician by the California State Board of Pharmacy. Equivalent to six months to one year of experience working in a pharmacy setting.
Key Qualifications
- Experience performing Medi-Cal billing and/or Family PACT billing for pharmaceuticals and over-the-counter items.
- Experience working in a student health or retail pharmacy setting
- Experience with CashNet or similar integrated financial system
- Experience with Propharm or similar pharmacy management software
- Experience with Medicat or similar electronic health record system
- Proven experience in a financial or cashiering role
Licenses/Certifications Required
Active and current California Pharmacy Technician License in good standing.

Compensation:
Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience, in alignment with the department's budget and equity guidelines.
- Initial step placement is not expected to exceed Step 1 ($4,135).
- Salary step placement for internal applicants will follow the CSUEU Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,135 - $5,906 per month (Step 1 – Step 19).
- Future increases, including step advancements, are subject to contract negotiations.
