PhD Position PV-integrated Bioprocesses for Sustainable Single Cell Protein Production
Job Description
With the rise in global population and over 840 million people worldwide projected to be undernourished by 2030, there is an urgent need to enhance food production through innovative solutions. This PhD project aims to explore growth conditions that will increase the yield and biomass productivity of open-culture PNSB for nutritional ingredients in food and feed applications. It evaluates PNSB cultivation strategies using diverse bio-based feedstocks and PV integration for PNSB bioprocesses. The project is part of the Environmental Biotechnology section and the Climate Safety & Security centre at TU Delft.
Job Requirements
The ideal candidate will have an MSc in Chemical/Environmental/Electrical Engineering or Microbiology, demonstrable background in reactor processes and biotechnologies, laboratory experience, scientific attitude, analytical skills, and excellent English skills. Nice-to-haves include experience in lab-scale bio-reactors and programming skills in Linux, R, or Python.
Conditions of Employment
Doctoral candidates will be offered a 4-year period of employment, starting with a 1.5-year contract followed by a 2.5-year contract based on performance. Salary is in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, based on a full-time contract of 38 hours per week, including holiday allowance and end-of-year bonus.
