"Doctoral scholarship holder in redox flow batteries"

The University of Antwerp is a dynamic, forward-thinking European university offering innovative academic education to more than 20,000 students and conducting pioneering scientific research. The research group Applied Electrochemistry and Catalysis (ELCAT) in the Faculty of Applied Engineering is seeking a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of redox flow batteries.

Position: You will work on preparing and defending a PhD thesis in redox flow batteries for renewable energy storage. This involves studying how battery design, operating conditions, and redox chemistry affect performance and lifetime. You will research new redox chemistries, develop novel electrodes, and analyze the effects of flow fields, scale-up, and stacking on battery performance using in situ characterization techniques. You will also publish scientific articles or patents and assist in limited teaching and research support tasks.

Profile: You hold a Master’s degree in chemical engineering, applied engineering/industrial science: chemistry, or a related field. You have excellent study results, a thorough understanding of mass transfer and reactor engineering, and are proactive, enthusiastic, and motivated. Experience with electrochemical systems is a plus, and you must have good English skills, be strong in planning, and align with the university’s educational and research policies.

What We Offer: A doctoral scholarship for one year, renewable up to four years, starting as soon as possible. The monthly amount is based on the university’s pay scales for doctoral scholarship holders, with additional benefits like ecocheques, internet allowance, and commuting reimbursement. Work will be at Campus Drie Eiken in Wilrijk, Belgium.
