Established in 2007, the Centre for Work, Organisation and Wellbeing (WOW) has more than 65 core academic and research members and 45 PhD researchers, with research expertise across all areas of workplace research. The centre is formally located in Griffith Business School. Using rigorous, theoretically informed empirical research, centre members continue to bridge the gap between organisational behaviour, wellbeing and workplace research, practice, and policy at local, national and international levels to effect positive change. Job Description

As part of a collaboration between Australian Red Cross Lifeblood (Lifeblood) and the Centre for Work, Organisation and Wellbeing, a PhD scholarship is being offered in the research area of the relationship between Work and Health.

More specifically:

• Lifeblood is committed to supporting high‑quality academic research that enhances the health, wellbeing, engagement and performance of its workforce.
• The PhD project seeks to deepen understanding of the bidirectional relationship between work and health, including how work design, environments and experiences influence health outcomes, and how health, in turn, shapes engagement and performance at work.
• The PhD project will be co-designed by the PhD researcher and their PhD supervisors, with Lifeblood taking an active role in co-supervising the candidate for the scholarship duration.

This opportunity will be primarily based at Brisbane South (Nathan). As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations. Griffith University’s sites are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.

Qualifications

The selection of applicants for the award of higher degree research scholarships at Griffith University involves consideration of your academic merit and research background. An applicant for admission as a PhD candidate shall hold:

• A Bachelor degree with first-class honours or second-class honours (Division A) degree in Psychology or Business, or a Masters degree, incorporating a significant research component, from a recognised institution; or
• A record of research, or a qualification granted by a professional or other body deemed by the Dean, Griffith Graduate Research School, to be of a standard comparable to a Bachelor degree with second-class honours (Division A). • The applicant MUST be an Australian citizen or an Australian permanent resident.
• The closing date for expressions of interest is: 8th June 2026 at 5pm.

About the scholarship

The PhD scholarship will be jointly funded by LifeBlood and Griffith University. The scholarship has a total value of AUD$58,800 per annum for three years with the possibility of a six-month extension.
