About the Position
The Department of Mathematics at Stockholm University offers PhD positions in Computational Mathematics, which covers areas such as:
- Numerical analysis
- Symbolic computations
- Computer science
- Computational biology
- Computational statistics
Specific Projects Available:
- Computational methods for inference of large sequencing datasets – supervised by Kristoffer Sahlin
- Advanced computational methods for rational approximation: PDEs, industrial applications, and more – supervised by Davide Pradovera
Eligibility Requirements
General Entry Requirements:
- Completed a second-cycle (master’s) degree or equivalent (240 HEC, including 60 HEC second-cycle courses)
Specific Entry Requirements:
- Completed at least 60 HEC in a mathematical subject
- Completed at least 30 HEC in either numerical analysis or computer science
Selection Criteria
Candidates will be assessed based on:
- Knowledge in relevant research fields
- Written and oral proficiency in English
- Analytical thinking, creativity, initiative, independence
- Ability to collaborate
- Previous studies, grades, quality of degree projects, references, motivation letter
- Selected candidates may be interviewed (interviews expected mid-May 2026)
Employment Terms
- Temporary full-time employment for the duration of PhD studies (up to 4 years)
- Primary focus on doctoral research; up to 20% of time may involve teaching, research assistance, or administration
- Employment contracts renewed for up to 1 year initially, then up to 2 years at a time
