Required Qualifications:
- BFA in Photography or equivalent experience.
- Working knowledge of current trends and techniques in contemporary photography that includes technical knowledge of both analog and digital photo equipment and processes.
- Experience working in a photography lab, ideally in a university context.
- Skilled with a variety of basic tools with an ability to diagnose and repair digital and analog equipment.
- Ability to lift heavy and bulky items up to 40lbs.
- Ability to travel locally in personal vehicle to pick-up materials and supplies for the Photography program.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3 or more years of advanced photo lab experience beyond the undergraduate level
- Record of functioning and performing effectively in a managerial role, effectively addressing issues with constructive feedback, communication and coaching.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including flexibility and collegiality.
- Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability working with and understanding the needs of artists in a fluid academic and creative environment.
- Supervisory and budget experience and an ability to follow detailed policies and procedures.
- Website maintenance and institutional social media experience.
Job Description:
The Photography Lab Manager provides technical and managerial assistance to the Photography program in the School of Art & Design, ensuring a safe and productive working environment that supports teaching and the creative endeavors of students and faculty.
Job Duties:
- Oversee all operations and maintenance of the Photography Labs and Facilities under direction of program coordinator and faculty, including the gallery space, studio, darkroom, digital labs, and all equipment.
- Develop and implement policy, processes, and health and safety protocols for usage of darkroom and darkroom chemistry, equipment, equipment checkout, and facilities to support faculty and students.
- Provide technical assistance to faculty and students, including lab and safety training, troubleshooting equipment issues, assisting students in post-production and printing, and providing demos and workshops in consultation with faculty where needed.
- Track and manage the program budget and manage purchasing for the program.
- Transporting photographic equipment and materials between campus buildings and occasionally picking-up materials from regional suppliers.
- Research, implement, and maintain printing machines, photography, lighting, and darkroom and equipment, tools, supplies, and work area for the purpose of ensuring a safe work environment and the availability of equipment and supplies.
- Interview, hire, train, manage, and evaluate student employees.
- Coordination and scheduling of Photography BFA Portfolio Reviews.
- Manage Photography program website and social media.
- Other duties as assigned.
