Physician Assistant (Abdominal Imaging) - Radiology
Position Summary
This position provides healthcare services typically performed by a physician, under the supervision of a physician; conducts pre-procedure and post-procedure assessment and treatment, performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures with appropriate documentation.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Performs physical assessments/examinations.
- Assesses and counsels patients and obtains medical histories.
- Helps with admission and discharge of patients including appropriate notes and orders.
- Will see patients on the monitoring units and inpatient floors for consultation for procedures within the scope of practice of the PA.
- Monitors patient's adherence to protocols.
- Coordinates screening for research studies.
- Collects and records data per research requirements and guidelines.
- Develops and implements adherence plans used with protocols.
- Will have preliminary discussion about procedures outside the PA’s scope of practice to facilitate the informed consent discussion by the radiologist.
- Will coordinate care and round on patients who were, or will be, under the care of abdominal radiology.
- Bills for professional services as permitted by the collaborative practice agreement.
- Interprets diagnostic tests results for deviations from normal.
- Drafts preliminary reports for radiology studies under supervision of radiologist.
- Prescribes therapy or medication with physician approval.
- Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as CT Scans and laboratory test.
- Performs image guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, such as fluid aspiration, thoracentesis, paracentesis, fine needle aspiration, core biopsy of superficial lesions and lymph nodes, gastrointestinal fluoroscopic studies, gastric and enteric tube placements.
- Provides physicians with assistance during surgery or complicated medical procedures.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings and workshops.
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objective, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

Master's degree - Physician Assistant Studies
Certifications/Professional Licenses:

Basic Life Support - American Heart Association, Basic Life Support - American Red Cross, Physician Assistant - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Physician Assistant - Missouri Division of Professional Registration

Required Qualifications:
- Current PA licensure to practice in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location, or ability to obtain within three months of date of hire.
- Certain/additional certifications may be necessary based on area of specialty.
- Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ years of experience.
- Organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- A background in procedures and/or imaging, namely ultrasound, is helpful.

Salary Range
$93,300.00 - $167,800.00 / Annually The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
