Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing both primary and specialty medical services. This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

• Updated "essential functions"-
• Takes complex medical histories on patients referred for consultation by academic and community physicians.
• Offers pre- and post-operative care coordination for surgeries, including gender affirming surgery.
• Collaborates with behavioral health providers, social workers, and other team members to ensure collaboration of care.
• Educates patients about surgeries, including gender-affirming surgeries.
• Participates in continuous quality improvement, staff education, and community outreach initiatives.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of current standards of care for transgender and gender-diverse individuals.
• Orders laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging studies and other diagnostic procedures.
• Orders and supervises the administration of blood products.
• Reaches tentative diagnosis of medical, surgical and other conditions.
• Develops treatment plans in conjunction with attending physician to provide optimal patient medical management.
• Participates in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.
• Assists in the collection of data for research projects.
• Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams.
• Participates in special projects and committee functions.
• Assists in surgeries
• In clinic procedures including injections and excisions
• In house rounding when needed
• Mentors PA students on rotations
• Responds to electronic messages from patients and providers
• Orders pre-op and post-op medications

Problem Solving:

• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
• Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

• Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant from the State of Utah.
• Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Preferred:

• Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
