Join our Team at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in San Francisco, CA as a Physician - Clinical Geneticist (Remote)!
The incumbent serves as a Clinical Geneticist with responsibility for delivery of comprehensive genetic care. The position includes responsibility for completing a broad range of genetic care needs for VA patients; providing genetic services via multiple modalities, including virtual care; actively participating as a member of a multi-disciplinary health care team; participating in the training of physicians and other health practitioners; coordinating care with other VA clinical services; and serving as the collaborating physician for genetic counselors.
Major Duties include but are not limited to:
- Make independent professional decisions and recommendations.
- Participate in the design of service priorities and objectives.
- Create a culture of commitment to quality, education, compassion, collaboration, innovation, accountability, integrity, and creative problem solving.
- Participate in the development of clinical protocols to ensure evidence-based use of genetic services, including germline genetic testing.
- Deliver high quality of genetic care, including evaluation of performance with respect to standards of care, clinical effectiveness, compliance with policies and quality improvement.
- Use systems-based methods to achieve optimal care coordination.
- Serve as the collaborating physician for genetic counselors, including participation in periodic (e.g., weekly) scheduled meetings with genetic counselors; responding to clinical questions from genetic counselors in a timely way outside of scheduled meetings; participating in weekly case conference, if available; and documenting in the medical record formulated clinical assessments or management plans (e.g., with addenda to genetic counselor notes or co-signing genetic counselor notes), as needed.
- Participate in meetings, conferences, workshops, seminars, and symposia to maintain expertise in clinical genetics to assist with integration of VISN 21 CRH plans and priorities for delivering genetic care.
- Serve as a member to relevant VA committees and assumes a subject matter expert role, as requested by VISN 21 CRH leadership.
- Assist with the implementation of new genetic practices.
Benefits and Features
- Expected Salary Range from $260K - $295K (negotiable based on candidate's qualifications, credentials and experience).
- Work Schedule: 8:00am-4:30pm Mon-Fri PST.
- Remote: This position is 100% remote outside of working area. Please note, this position is designated as a remote position, and we have disclosed to you that this position may fall under the Presidential Memorandum titled "Return to In-Person Work" ending remote capability, which will require you to go into the office.
- Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): Authorized.
- Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.
- Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME).
- Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA.
- Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
- Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory.
- CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification).
- Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.
- Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.
