Essential Job Duties: The primary purpose of the position is to serve as the program director leading The Engineering Place's Engineering Summer Programs providing end-to-end management by developing, implementing, administering, and evaluating multiple pre-college engineering and computer science enrichment programs across the state of North Carolina.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement week-long day and residential engineering summer camps to achieve strategic K-12 outreach goals by providing a variety of high-quality age-appropriate hands-on, inquiry-based K-12 engineering education curricula
- Responsible for overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of direct reports by carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with university, college, and departmental policies and procedures
- Develop and manage the program budget, tracking expenses, and ensuring cost-effectiveness under the guidance of The Engineering Place Director
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and safety standards for minors on campus by developing and implementing safety protocols and risk management strategies and working in partnership with the Department of Youth Programs and Compliance continuously evaluating university processes
- Facilitate professional development opportunities for K-20 educators through Engineering Summer Programs to enhance their skills in teaching engineering concepts and strategies to promote engineering education in their classrooms
- Maintain awareness of community, industry, and campus resources to strategically collaborate with partners ensuring Engineering meets its mission as a public, land grant institution of providing broad access to a student population that is representative of the demographics of the state of North Carolina
- Consult with partnering camp locations throughout North Carolina to provide one-on-one coaching, site-specific curriculum development, and annual spring regional camp staff training and explore future opportunities for expansion
- Assess program performance by reviewing participant feedback and educational outcomes to provide reports on program success, challenges, and areas for improvement to The Engineering Place Director
- Maintain American Camp Association Accreditation (ACA) by following requirements and recommendations, and preparing documentation and processes for regular visitations and reports
- Assist in the development of outreach grant proposals to support and expand the program's impact
- Work in partnership with the Strategic Marketing and Planning Manager to create engaging promotional materials and utilize various communication channels to raise awareness about engineering education programs as well as develop a strong online presence through social media, website, and other platforms
- Contribute to the overall success of The Engineering Place and the Office of Academic Affairs in the College of Engineering by serving on relevant university, college, and department committees, and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Other Work/Responsibilities: Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities.
Minimum Experience/Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or education from an accredited college or university. Five years of experience planning and leading multifaceted STEM programs within a higher education, non-profit, K12 education, or other similar organization.
Required Qualifications: Commitment to working in a collaborative environment. Ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, and integrity. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a broad range of constituents. Demonstrated record of commitment to advancing educational opportunities and student success in engineering and/or STEM disciplines. Strong organizational and program management skills. Understand and effectively use Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and similar Google applications in addition to Adobe Acrobat/Fox-it. Some experience with strategic planning and assessment. Ability to work quickly with acute attention to detail when under pressure to meet deadlines. A highly motivated self-starter able to work independently as well as in a team environment. Nimbleness to adapt to operational and work schedule changes as needed.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or education from an accredited college or university. More than five years of experience leading STEM programs. Familiarity with best practices of Engineering Education. Experience with translating engineering research into educational experiences.
