Position Summary
A University Police Officer will perform general and varied police work in the protection of life and property through overall security measures and the enforcement of laws and ordinances. The police officer will have the responsibility to perform routine police assignments received from a dispatcher or a police supervisor. General duties will consist of routine patrol, case investigation, traffic regulation, and crime prevention efforts. The police officer must be able to act without direct supervision and to exercise independent judgment in meeting emergencies, conducting investigations, and determining the appropriate outcome to such case investigations.
Job Duties
Patrol University Property (30%): Patrols University property (including buildings, parking lots, and open areas) and surrounding areas as assigned by vehicle, bicycle, or on foot to deter, locate, and apprehend persons committing crimes or unlawful activities.
Respond to and Investigate Calls for Service (20%): Responds to and investigates any call for service... Responds to medical calls, renders first aid, and arranges for emergency medical treatment.
Investigations (20%): Conducts accident investigations. Conducts criminal civil investigations... Prepares complete, concise and accurate case file documentation...
Assist Employees, Students and General Public (15%): Answers questions from students, employees and the general public regarding laws, ordinances, incidents or services.
Other Duties (15%): Provides traffic and crowd control... Attends mandatory department training... Special assignments...
Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Required License/Certification: Must be able to successfully complete the Basic Police Certification course in the State of Nebraska within 6 months of employment. Valid Nebraska driver’s license required.
Preferred Education: College degree
Pay Information: $70,392-$91,999
