Carnegie Mellon University's Police Department (UPD) is searching for Police Officers who are highly motivated and eager to serve the CMU community! Core responsibilities will include:
- Conducting general police, security, and watchman-style foot and mobile patrols of property used, owned, or occupied in whole or in part by Carnegie Mellon University.
- Patrols in all weather conditions and temperatures.
- Protecting life and property and preserving the public peace.
- Ensuring the safety and security of the campus, the assigned sector, and its occupants/users by enforcing all Federal, state, and local laws, and university policies.
- Investigating and making written reports concerning suspicious activity, persons, and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Providing general assistance to security guards and traffic monitors on request; and general information to university personnel and visitors.
You Must Demonstrate:
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to interact with a varied population
- Ability to remain calm in difficult, dangerous, and high stress emergency situations, and respond to all campus constituents in a professional and polite manner
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor's Degree or semester credit equivalent preferred
- Previous security/police training preferred
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered
Requirements:
- Extensive law enforcement background investigation to include, but not limited to, credit check, criminal history, driving record, physical, drug & alcohol screening, and psychological exam per the Chief of Police and PLEAC Accreditation Standards.
- Valid PA driver's license
- PA Act 120 certification at time of hire
- PA Child Protection Clearance (Act 153)
