Job Overview

The Department of Aerospace Engineering at University of Cincinnati is seeking an exceptional candidate for a postdoctoral fellow position in the field of dynamics and control, adaptive and nonlinear control, and autonomous systems. This position involves collaborating with faculty, graduate students, and external research partners, with opportunities to publish some of the research results in major journals and present findings in major conferences.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct advanced research on topics related to adaptive and autonomous nonlinear control, including ability/interest in developing control methods.
  • Advancing and testing adaptive control techniques on UAV systems.
  • Development and implementation of control algorithms (including simulations) of developed methods on bio-inspired robotic and/or UAV systems.
  • Utilizing software techniques, such but not limited to Matlab.
  • Perform meetings with our collaborative teams under the sponsored project.
  • Prepare and publish high-quality research papers in peer-reviewed journals and present at professional conferences.
  • Mentor and supervise graduate and undergraduate students working on related projects.

Required Education

PhD in Engineering field (Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical) or Science field (Computer Science or Applied Mathematics) with research focus on one or more of the following: dynamics and control, adaptive and nonlinear control, autonomous systems, bio-inspired robotics and UAVs.

Required Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline.
  • May require experience with specialized software programs.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Demonstrated research expertise in dynamics, control, and trajectory optimization.
  • Familiarity or experience with model-free and real-time methods such as Extremum Seeking Control and Optimal Control Methods.
  • Proven research experience in the development of robotic or UAV control systems and simulations.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, and CFD for modeling, simulation and data fusion.
  • Strong publication record (theoretical and/or application-oriented papers) in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Dual ability to work in both the fundamental developments of control systems and their implementation/simulation.
  • Experience with bio-inspired robotics and UAVs (especially those related to flight of birds and insects).
  • Strong communication and writing skills, with the ability to present complex research findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
