Post-Doc Research Associate - Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders (CEED) and Carolina Athletics Mental Health and Performance Psychology Program (MHPP)

The Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders (CEED) in the Department of Psychiatry at the UNC-CH School of Medicine invites applications for a Clinical Post-Doctoral Fellowship. This is a full-time, two-year position with a start date of July 1, 2026.

UNC CEED provides outstanding evidence-based, multidisciplinary inpatient and outpatient care for individuals with eating disorders. The fellowship position will be 80% clinical and 20% research. The fellow's primary clinical responsibilities will include conducting comprehensive eating disorder evaluations and providing individual, group, and family-based psychotherapy treatments in CEED Outpatient, CEED Eating Disorder Unit (EDU), and Carolina Athletics Mental Health and Performance Psychology Program (MHPP). CEED is the primary hospital-based eating disorders treatment program for the state and treats a full range of eating disorders across the age span, with a racial, ethnic, sex/gender identifying, and socioeconomically diverse patient population. Advanced training and supervision will be provided on both inpatient and outpatient levels of care. Fellows will have the opportunity to engage in research activities that reflect current projects at CEED and/or quality improvement/assurance projects based on our clinical programming. Our training philosophy is based on the scientist-practitioner model: we provide fellows with advanced skills in the practice of psychology and the integration of evidence-based practices in a specialized eating disorder treatment facility. MHPP is the primary mental heath provider for UNC's varsity student-athletes and is a part of the Sports Medicine department. MHPP treats a wide variety of presenting concerns among young adults with both brief and long-term therapy within a multidisciplinary setting, working with physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists, and registered dietitians. The fellow will have the opportunity to work with athletes presenting with disordered eating and body image concerns, and be a part of the Athlete Eating Disorder Team. In addition, the fellow will receive strong generalist training with opportunities to develop skills in mental performance interventions. Following the completion of training, the fellow will be prepared to function independently at the assistant professor level within a medical school or other professional setting. Additional opportunities may be available including access to professional development lectures and journal clubs. More information about CEED can be found on our website.

Education and Experience:

A clinical background in eating disorders or evidence of dedication to the field of eating disorders is encouraged but not required.
