"Post-Doctoral Associate in the Center for Sand Hazards and Opportunities in Resilience, Energy, and Sustainability (SHORES) - Mostafa Mobasher"

The Center for Sand Hazards and Opportunities in Resilience, Energy, and Sustainability (SHORES) and the Division of Engineering, New York University Abu Dhabi, seek to recruit a Post-Doctoral Associate to work on a project focused on the geomechanical modeling for energy applications. The position will be supervised by Professor Mostafa Mobasher and involve collaboration with multidisciplinary research teams.

The project focuses on advanced modeling of coupled fracture/damage of geomechanical materials under multiphysical loading regimes including hydraulic, thermal, and chemical processes. Applications include enhanced modeling of hydraulic fracturing and carbon sequestration. Activities involve developing theory, implementing advanced mechanics and numerical models, and calibrating/validating constitutive models based on experimental data.

Required Qualifications: A PhD in Engineering Mechanics, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, with research experience in computational mechanics and computational geomechanics.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in modeling geomechanical systems
• Experience in modeling hydraulic fracturing and carbon sequestration
• Experience in Multiphysics modeling in solid mechanics framework
• Experience in non-linear solid material response and fracture modeling
• Experience in machine-learning modeling for solid mechanics applications
• Experience in developing and coupling numerical methods for solid mechanics modeling
• Experience in digital rock technology, including advanced imaging and analysis
• Experience in performing high pressure and temperature triaxial tests
• Experience in experimental rock mechanics
