Summary of Position
This post-doc position is offered in a laboratory that studies the role of microtubules in neuronal development and heart disease. The candidate will perform various laboratory and analysis tasks, perform independent research, and write manuscripts to publish research.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
90% Research: Prepare and perform experiments using cells and purified proteins. Visualize cells and interactions of purified proteins using confocal microscopy and total internal reflectance microscopy. Purify proteins and perform western blotting to quantify results. Perform image and data analysis using MATLAB and FIJI, and summarize results by generating appropriate graphical output in Matlab or excel. Keep detailed records of all experiments and procedures. Write up protocols and results for publication, review manuscripts prior to publication. Conduct background literature research on relevant topics. Participate in weekly lab meetings to report on training progress and discuss research findings. Recognize a diversity of problem-solving skills and how they can lead to better solutions.
10% Data and Lab Maintenance:
Maintain critical laboratory documentation (e.g., controlled substances and safety). Prepare for and participate in laboratory inspections that occur throughout the year.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
PhD in cell biology and biophysics.
Training and/or experience in handling of purified proteins, computational analysis and modeling in MATLAB, stem cell differentiation and tissue culture, confocal and TIRF microscopy of cells and biophysical experiments, and biochemistry experiments including western blotting and ELISA. Previous first author publications. Demonstrated ability to work with a team of colleagues from diverse communities and cultures.
Strong familiarity with the use of FIJI and Matlab in data analysis.

The Department of Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development comprises faculty from both the Medical School and the College of Biological Sciences. Faculty members are engaged in research in three key disciplines of the department—genetics, cell biology and developmental biology.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: $62,232 - $62,232 ; depending on education/qualifications/experience
