"Post-Doctoral Associate"

Position Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Post-Doctoral Associate in the Cell Biology and Molecular Medicine Department within New Jersey Medical School (NJMS).

Under the direction of the principal investigator, the Post-Doctoral Associate conducts highly specialized and technical research involving animal models of cardiovascular disease.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Designs, executes, and analyzes in vitro and in vivo studies of cardiovascular disease.
• Responsible for keeping detailed records of procedures and experiments in laboratory notebook. Compiles data, make necessary calculations, presents results at national conferences, and publish the results on high impact journals.
• Develops own research project(s) under the guidance of the PI.
• Instructs and trains students, technicians and laboratory assistants as required.
• Performs genetic matings to generate animal models of heart disease.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Cellular & Molecular Physiology, Pharmacology, or an equivalent field.
• Candidates in All-But-Degree (ABD) status will also be considered but must hold a PhD degree by the start date of the appointment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• This position involves prolonged standing, walking and sitting, as well as use of laboratory equipment. Must perform complex procedures and demonstrate manual dexterity.
• Some stooping, reaching, climbing and bending. Occasional lifting of 20 pounds to a height of 6½ feet.
• Hearing and speech capabilities necessary to communicate with other researchers and staff in person, on the telephone and by e-mail.
• Vision capable of viewing gauges, computer monitors, charts, forms, text and numbers for prolonged periods.
• Must be available to work flexible hours, including overtime on short notice and possible weekends and holidays to meet strict deadlines.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Office/Clinical/Laboratory environment. Moderate noise.
