Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Model and monitor storm-water and floodplain systems, natural infrastructure, and water quantity and quality in mixed land use watersheds. (25% of time)
  • Inform and participate in the development of communication and outreach materials. (20% of time)
  • Assist in the development of design guidance for natural infrastructure systems. (15% of time)
  • Support the development and delivery of short course, undergraduate, and graduate curricular materials centered on natural infrastructure and Engineering With Nature. (15% of time)
  • Co-authoring journal manuscripts and research reports for project sponsors and oral presentations of research to sponsors and at scientific meetings. (15% of time)
  • Communicate regularly and in a timely fashion with the PI regarding research and other issues relevant to the operation of coastal laboratories. (10% of time)

Position Summary: The College of Engineering wishes to appoint a Post-Doctoral Associate to work on grant funded research projects for a period of 1 year with additional employment dependent on the needs of the project. In this role they will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Brian Bledsoe, Professor and Director of the Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems (IRIS), at the College of Engineering’s School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural and Mechanical Engineering. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of scientists at the University of Georgia who are engaged in cooperative research projects in IRIS.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position: This project is highly specialized due to the incorporation of nature-based infrastructure systems. Candidate will have a PhD in hydrology, water resources engineering, coastal engineering, or related field; and have a demonstrated high level of expertise in hydrodynamic modeling, storm-water management, and field monitoring techniques and tools. Successful candidate will thrive in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, and have the capacity to conceptualize and implement high quality/high impact engineering research projects. Licensure as a Professional Engineer is desirable.
