and study new single crystal phases having new and unusual magnetic properties and displaying frustrated magnetic states and quantum properties. By accessing unusual high metal oxidation states, new materials with frustrated quantum behavior will be observed. The work is funded by the NSF. The anticipated start date is flexible, late August 2026 is preferred. The appointment will be for one year with options for yearly renewal based on performance and funding availability. Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, or a related field is required.
- Prior experience with high temperature hydrothermal single crystal growth and x-ray diffraction characterization is required.
The successful candidate should have proven ability to use high temperature hydrothermal reaction methods to grow and characterize single crystals. This requires the skills to perform reactions in solvents at temperatures between 500-700˚C and pressures exceeding 200kPa. The successful candidate must be able to characterize these compounds using single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction as well as assist in collection and oversee magnetic data. The successful candidate will also be expected to design and execute experiments to accomplish the above goals and provide oversight and mentorship to junior members of the research group.
