Offer Description
A call for applications is open for 1 Post-Doctoral Research Grant within the scope of the REblister project – BIODEGRADABLE BLISTER PACKAGING (M2030-FEDER-03054500), at the University of Madeira, funded by the MADEIRA 2030 program of IDR-RAM, under the following conditions:
I. Scientific Area
Design with knowledge in biocomposites for applications in biodegradable packaging.
II. Admission Requirements
Candidates must cumulatively meet the following requirements:
1. General Requirements:
- a. Hold a doctoral degree in Design, Product Design, Materials Engineering, Textile Engineering, or related scientific areas, provided that the scientific career demonstrates relevant experience for the development of sustainable biomaterials;
- b. The doctoral degree must have been obtained within the three years prior to the date of submission of the application;
- c. The postdoctoral research must be carried out at a host institution different from the institution where the research work that led to the awarding of the doctoral degree was developed;
- d. Research activities do not require postdoctoral experience;
- e. Research activities have a development and execution period equal to or less than three years;
- f. The fellow does not exceed, with the signing of the fellowship contract in question, including possible renewals, an accumulated period of three years in this type of fellowship, whether consecutive or interspersed.
2. Preferred requirements:
- a. Proven experience in research and development in the area of biomaterials, sustainable materials, composite materials, films, biomass or related scientific areas.
- b. Experience in the chemical, physicochemical, structural, thermal or mechanical characterization of films/coatings and biocomposites, using appropriate laboratory techniques.
- c. Experience in the analysis and processing of scientific data, as well as in the writing of scientific articles and technical-scientific reports.
- d. Proficiency in English (oral and written).
- e. Experience in participating in national or international research projects, as well as in knowledge transfer and innovation activities, will be valued.
III. Work Plan
- a) Development of interdisciplinary activities linking scientific research in the area of Materials Chemistry to the area of Design, focusing on the sustainable valorization of biomass from various agro-residues to obtain fibers intended for the development of innovative biomaterials.
- b) Development and evaluation of sustainable biomaterials, using the incorporation of natural fibers in polymeric matrices, aiming at obtaining materials with potential application in biodegradable packaging for blister packaging applications (packaging: Brufen and paracetamol).
- c) Evaluation of the mechanical, thermal, chemical, functional and biodegradability properties of the biomaterials developed in the previous stage.
- d) Statistical treatment, interpretation and discussion of the experimental results obtained, as well as the preparation of technical-scientific reports and supporting documentation for activities directed in the area of Design in the REblister project.
- e) Preparation and publication of scientific articles in indexed international journals, presentation of results at national and international scientific congresses and collaboration in activities of dissemination, valorization and transfer of knowledge of the project results.
- f) Support all members of the REblister project team in all dissemination activities, depending on the guidance of the PI and CO-PI of the project.

V. Workplace
The work will be developed at the University of Madeira, in conjunction with the Madeira Chemistry Center and the Department of Arts and Design, under the guidance of Professor Dr. Shujoy Chakraborty and Dr. Rosa Maria de Sá Perestrelo Gouveia.
VI. Grant Duration
The grant will have an initial duration of 12 months, renewable up to a maximum of 36 months, and may not exceed the project's end date.
VII. Monthly Maintenance Allowance
The grant amount corresponds to €1901.00, according to the table of values for grants awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in Portugal.
VIII. Funding
The grant awarded under this competition will be funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the Madeira Regional Program 2021-2027 (Madeira 2030), by Portugal 2030 and by the European Union | Operation Code: M2030-FEDER-03054500.
IX. Selection Method
The selection methods to be used will be the following: curriculum evaluation, interview, with respective weightings of 60% and 40%.

XI. Method of publication/notification of results
The admission lists, as well as the results of each selection method and the final ranking lists, will be published on the website of the Human Resources Unit – Scholarship Holder Center of the University of Madeira, http://urh.uma.pt/, with the candidate being notified by email.
XII. Application deadline and method of submission
- a) Applications may be submitted within 10 working days following the publication of the Notice;
- b) Applications must be formalized by sending an application letter accompanied by the following documents: Letter of motivation, Curriculum Vitae, academic qualifications certificate.
