Advertised Job Summary: Customer Retail Counters: Provide postage stamp sales and shipping services at Customer Retail Counters on the Columbia campus to University community and the public using a point of sale and USPS RSS mailing/shipping system. U.S. Dept. of State – USC Passport Acceptance Agent: Perform passport application acceptance and photo services in accordance with the U.S. Dept. of State policies and procedures. Requires ability to obtain and maintain ongoing training and annual Passport Agent recertification upon successful completion of initial training provided by the department. Mail / Parcels: Unload and sort inbound mail/parcels for data entry in computerized tracking system for dispatch and delivery services to Student Package Pickup locations, parcel lockers and departments via delivery van and straight box truck. Process official University outbound mail and parcels using postage metering equipment and accounting software. Fast-paced environment requires ability to multi-task to meet daily mail operational deadlines and endure extended periods of physical demands associated with mail and parcel sort/delivery/dispatch/processing, to include lifting up to, but not limited to 50 lbs. As a postal representative, must maintain pleasant and effective communications and working relations with the University community and the public.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience: Typically holds a high school diploma or GED. Requires 1 or more years of job related experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials: Valid SC driver’s license. Obtain and maintain required annual Passport Acceptance Agent recertification.
Preferred Qualifications: Two (2) years’ work experience and knowledge in postal courier, postal delivery and mail processing/shipping operations. Knowledge of USPS guidelines and regulations and experience in postal related operations.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Above average computer skills including the ability to utilize USPS and UPS websites to determine postal rates, mailing requirements and learn other software programs associated with USC Postal Services’ daily operations. Have good reading, comprehension and verbal communication skills and be able to effectively communicate effectively with faculty, staff and others. Attention to details is crucial in all aspects of job duties. Ability to operate a delivery vehicle and straight box truck with lift gate for mail and parcel deliveries/collections.
