Postdoc Citizenship Competencies (0.6 FTE)

Job Summary

This position involves a central role in a large-scale research project on citizenship education in the Netherlands and internationally, specifically the Peil.Burgerschap 2026/2027 and ICCS 2027 projects. The postdoc will map citizenship competencies of students across various educational levels and contribute to international comparative research.

Responsibilities

  • Develop measurement instruments such as tests, questionnaires, and assignments focused on citizenship skills.
  • Recruit and guide schools from five different educational sectors.
  • Support, train, and coordinate test leaders for fieldwork.
  • Analyze large-scale data from questionnaires and tests.
  • Write technical reports, scientific publications, and presentations.
  • Translate research results into practical feedback for schools and stakeholders.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • PhD in Social and Behavioral Sciences, preferably in Educational Sciences; a PhD in another field is possible if there is demonstrable affinity with citizenship or social issues.
  • Strong publication record in the relevant field.
  • Solid knowledge of research designs and both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both Dutch and English.
  • Excellent social and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team within a broad consortium.
  • Key competencies include conceptual ability, analytical skills, environmental awareness, and result-oriented approach.
