Postdoctoral Associate in Neuroscience
Postdoctoral Associate in Neuroscience
Cornell University
Position Overview
A postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Tara Fischer’s research group at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY to study molecular and cellular mechanisms of organelle quality control and immunity in neurodegenerative disorders. We are looking for motivated scientists who are excited about questions in how cells sense and maintain the integrity of organelles, how these processes integrate with cellular immunity, and how their failure contributes to neurodegeneration.
Research Environment
We offer you the opportunity to pursue high quality basic research with secure funding and excellent resources in a vibrant community of researchers at the Weill Institute for Cell and Molecular Biology. With this, you will work collaboratively on projects with the team, and you will have the opportunity to develop your own research projects to take with you if pursuing an independent academic career.
We also have a strong commitment to mentoring and training in the lab; you will have opportunities to co-mentor graduate and undergraduate students at Cornell, and you will receive support and guidance in successfully transitioning to the next stage of your career. Your attention to detail, collaborative mindset, enthusiasm for research, and appreciation of others will help ensure the lab operates smoothly and remains a space for meaningful scientific discovery.
Preferred Background
Prior research experience in neuronal and immune cell model systems, the fields of autophagy, organelle biology, membrane trafficking, lipid metabolism, neurodegeneration, neuroinflammation, or innate immunity, and a curious mind for dissecting molecular pathways will be a plus. We also are always open to diverse expertise and creative ways to approach our research questions.
Your Qualifications
- PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, immunology or related fields achieved by start date of the appointment
- Experience in cell culture, biochemical techniques, and microscopy
- Solid publication record
- Strong communication and writing skills
- Comfortable working independently and as a part of a collaborative team
- Values mentorship and training
- Orientation towards learning
How to Apply
Please send your application to Tara Fischer at tdf45@cornell.edu.
Your application should include:
- A cover letter briefly describing your past research experience and accomplishments, why you are interested in joining our research group, and what kinds of questions you would like to work on. Please also include your anticipated timeline for completing your PhD, if relevant, and your earliest preferred start date.
- Complete CV with publications
- Contact information for three references
Deadline and Appointment Details
Application review will begin mid-February and continue on a rolling basis until the position is filled. This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) with benefits. The initial appointment period will be one year with the potential for renewal.
