Postdoctoral Associate (Walters Lab)
Applications are solicited for an individual to be appointed as a postdoctoral associate under the supervision of Prof. Marc Walters. The research will focus on the development of soluble zinc mineral precursors, their deposition of zinc minerals in dentin tubules and the characterization of the deposited minerals.
The project entails the sectioning of teeth to produce dentin blocs followed by treatment of the blocs with mineralizing solutions. The treated blocs are to be analyzed by electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy to determine the location, the extent, and the identity of the mineral deposited in dentin tubules. This work requires expertise in electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction and the handling of mineralized samples.
The terms of employment, which would be six months, with a possibility of renewal, include a competitive salary and other benefits. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and candidates will be considered until the position is filled.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, this position’s annual base salary is $62,500.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering.
To be considered, all applicants must submit a cover letter summarizing research experience and specifying their interests in this position (less than two pages), a curriculum vitae (including a complete list of publications), and two contacts to serve as references (previous research mentors are preferred as references).
