Department Overview
The Department of Economic History and International Relations is a dynamic and strong education and research department at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Stockholm University. It aims to be nationally leading and internationally prominent in research and education, focusing on three IR sub-fields:
- International Relations
- International Security
- International Institutions
- International Political Economy (IPE)
Project Description
The ERC-funded project “PROTECT – Protectionism in Place: Explaining How Subnational Change Affects Public Support for Protectionism” examines:
- Why some citizens support protectionist policies that are costly to them while others do not
- The effects of changing local circumstances on public attitudes towards protectionism
The project collects new survey and subnational context data from select Western and non-Western countries.
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct research within the ERC-project PROTECT
- Design, collect, and analyze new survey and panel data
- Apply methodological approaches such as survey data analysis, panel data analysis, and survey experiments
- Analyze survey and survey experimental data
- Collaborate in a research group focused on quantitative research of public attitudes towards protectionism
- Participate in the Higher Seminar in International Relations at the department
Qualification Requirements
- Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent relevant degree from another country
- Degree must be completed no later than the employment decision date
Preferred:
- Doctoral degree completed no more than three years prior to the application deadline (exceptions for special circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, elected positions, service in defense, clinical attachment, or relevant assignments)
- Scientific experience relevant to International Relations and survey/panel/survey experimental data
- Ability to work in an international, cross-disciplinary research team
- Excellent academic written English
Employment Details
- Full-time employment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years
- Possibility of extension under special circumstances
- Start date preferably June 2026 or as per agreement
