Postdoctoral Fellow in Phytomanagement and Phytoremediation of Mining Waste
Duration: 12 months
Position Summary:
We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join our team and contribute to research in phytomanagement and phytoremediation of mining waste. This position is part of a multidisciplinary research project focused on the ecological rehabilitation of phosphate mining soils. The project aims to harness the potential of local flora to restore the ecological functions of degraded technosols. Our approach is integrative, combining the analysis of plant diversity, functional traits, soil quality, biotic interactions, and ecophysiological properties.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise fieldwork, including floristic surveys, soil sampling, and ecological data collection.
- Conduct advanced analyses of plant functional traits and their phytoremediation potential.
- Contribute to the characterization of technosols (physico-chemical, mineralogical, and microbiological aspects).
- Identify plant species suitable for phytostabilization and revegetation of mining sites.
- Collaborate with project partners and compile, analyze, and document research findings.
- Disseminate results through the writing of scientific publications and technical deliverables.
- Work closely with fellow researchers to interpret results and contribute to the writing of scientific articles.
Candidate Profile:
- PhD in plant ecology, soil science, environmental science, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in arid or degraded environments (mining, semi-arid, Saharan).
- Proficiency in plant functional trait analysis and functional ecology methods.
- Strong knowledge of soil characterization (physico-chemical analysis, mineralogy, soil microbiology).
- Understanding of soil–plant–microorganism interactions.
- Teamwork skills and collaborative problem-solving abilities.
- Strong written and oral communication skills in both English and French.
Additional Skills (Preferred):
- Experience with environmental data analysis (R, Python, multivariate statistics).
- Experience in GIS and ecological mapping.
- Strong scientific writing skills and command of scientific English.
- Initiative, autonomy, and willingness to conduct fieldwork.
Application Documents:
- Cover letter
- Detailed CV
- List of publications
