Job Summary

A training position designed to learn through engagement in an advanced level of scientific, technical, and administrative work in support of research efforts in an assigned laboratory focused on quantitative experimental animal and cell culture data. Participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols; develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures; publish results in scientific journals. Perform a variety of complex chemical, biological, cytologic, confocal microscopic, surgical, statistical/computational and dissection of mice procedures.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities to include, but are not limited to:

  • ANALYZE RESULTS OF EXPERIMENTS: Analyze results of experiments and procedures manually or using computational softwares. Perform vascular microsurgeries to model AVF, wire injury, and aortic aneurysm formation. Perform in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo mechanism studies on VSMC phenotypic adaptation in these diseases.
  • PROJECT PLANNING: Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while insuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines.
  • SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE: Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects. Presents findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • COMPOSE ARTICLES: Compose articles for publication in scientific journals; review articles prepared by others.
  • RESEARCH ACTIVITIES: Discuss with principal investigators, other postdocs, students, and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures, and other technological aspects of research activities.
  • TROUBLESHOOTE EQUIPMENT: Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and operate microscopes, computer-linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers and other complex scientific equipment; instruct others in operation of equipment.
  • OTHER DUTIES: Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

MD, PhD, or MD/PhD or equivalent degree from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience
Strong research background in vascular cell pathophysiology, flow cytometry or fluorescence imaging or protein-protein interaction or molecular biology or signaling pathways using multiple experimental techniques including cell culture, RNA analysis, chromatin immunoprecipitation, performing mouse breeding, genotyping, and routine experiments such as cloning, western blot, immunoprecipitation and immunohistochemistry analyses.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Good organizational skills, detail-oriented and ability to prioritize tasks.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work independently with only general supervision. Ability to complete work and to meet deadlines.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
This position is funded through external sources. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of these funds.
