Involved Laboratories:
- DRUID team at IRISA Lab (https://www.irisa.fr/en/teams/druid)
- LyRIDS of ECE (https://www.ece.fr/lecole-2/le-centre-de-recherche/)
Duration: 18 months
Application Deadline: August 31, 2025
Interview Dates: September 1 – September 30, 2025
The Subject
- Context: Personalizing education with AI is a long-standing challenge, unresolved despite advances in chatbots. These struggle to manage uncertainty and provide a comprehensive view of subjects. They don't always adapt to learners' implicit needs and evolving knowledge. Consequently, the reliability and relevance of their responses for learning are limited.
- Main Objective: Develop a multi-agent environment based on LLMs to personalize education. These agents will gather learner information and enrich outputs. Crucially, they will ensure response reliability by identifying uncertainties and ambiguities. The goal is to foster correct understanding and build user trust.
- Scientific Framework: The project falls under AI applied to education, focusing on adaptive and personalized systems. It will explore LLMs and multi-agent architecture. Research will address uncertainty management, learner modeling, and knowledge engineering. The aim is to move beyond simple assistance to create trustworthy learning environments.
Candidate Profile
The applicant must hold or be nearing completion of a PhD in Computer Science, specializing in one of the following areas: Artificial Intelligence, Data Management, or Data Analysis. Relevant topics include machine learning, statistics, data mining, data analysis, natural language processing (NLP), and Education.
Main Responsibilities
- Design and develop a multi-agent architecture leveraging LLMs.
- Implement mechanisms for collecting information about learners.
- Develop methods to identify and handle uncertainty in responses.
- Evaluate system effectiveness and contribute to scientific dissemination.
- Conduct innovative research at the intersection of generative AI and Education.
- Provide 100 hours of pedagogical activities annually, including teaching and supervising students. Proficiency in English and French (both oral and written) is required.
- Contribute to applied research in AI, data, and digital engineering.
- Participate in writing scientific articles and other documents related to research activities.
Compensation
A gross annual salary of €38,000, along with additional benefits (full reimbursement for public transportation and meal vouchers).
