Subject Description
The postdoctoral position focuses on biomedical engineering with emphasis on acoustofluidics, liquid chromatography, and nanoparticle manipulation.
Special focus will be on developing microfluidic systems that integrate acoustofluidic chromatography and acoustic enrichment (trapping) of submicron biological particles, particularly extracellular vesicles.
Work Duties
The main responsibility of the postdoctoral fellow is to conduct independent research. Up to 20% teaching may be included. The position also offers three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning.
Specific duties include:
- Conducting research in acoustofluidics and liquid chromatography
- Publishing results in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at international conferences
- Supervising degree projects and doctoral students
- Actively seeking external research funding
- Collaborating with industry partners and academic groups
- Performing administrative tasks related to the above
The overarching goal of the position is to develop research independence and advance academic career progression.
Qualification Requirements
To be eligible for appointment, the applicant must have:
- A PhD (or equivalent international degree) in biomedical engineering or a closely related field, awarded within the last three years (exceptions may apply for special circumstances).
- Proven experience in analytical methods based on liquid chromatography and understanding of its fundamental principles.
- Experience with surface modification of chromatographic matrices.
- Experience in bioanalytical methods for protein analysis.
- Experience analyzing nanoparticles and/or extracellular vesicles.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Demonstrated pedagogical and communication abilities.
Assessment Criteria
The position is a career development opportunity primarily focused on research. Assessment will emphasize the applicant’s research qualifications and potential.
Key criteria:
- Proven ability to conduct high-quality, independent research.
- Demonstrated teaching skills and interest in pedagogy.
Additional qualifications (highly desirable):
- Experience in acoustofluidics and lab-on-a-chip technology.
- Experience in design and manufacturing of acoustofluidic systems.
- Skills in acoustic and fluid dynamics modeling for particle trajectories in microfluidic systems.
- Experience with acoustic enrichment/trapping of nanoparticles or extracellular vesicles.
- Teaching experience at university level.
Consideration will also be given to how the applicant’s expertise complements and strengthens ongoing research and contributes to the department’s future development.
Terms of Employment
- Type: Fixed-term postdoctoral position (2 years)
- Extent: Full-time (100%)
