Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Dark Matter searches with ATLAS

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Dark Matter searches with ATLAS. The post is available initially for a fixed-term duration of 1 year, with the possibility of extension by 1 year.

This project involves searching new particles using the data from the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The successful candidates will analyse data from the ATLAS experiment at CERN seeking evidence for new particles and phenomena that might explain Dark Matter using the LHC collisions. They will also contribute to ATLAS operations and performance.

This will involve adapting existing and developing new scientific techniques; contributing ideas for new research projects; collaborating in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and occasionally present papers and posters; represent the research group at external meetings & seminars, either with other members of the group or alone; managing their own academic research and administrative activities; and carrying out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions, and research groups.

The post-holder will have the opportunity to teach.

Applicants should hold, or be close to the completion of, a doctorate (DPhil or PhD) in experimental particle physics or related field and ideally have a strong background in searches for heavy particles at the LHC. Previous experience with the ATLAS experiment will be an advantage. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, plan and execute research activities, and work in a team.

Please direct enquiries about the role to Prof Alan Barr.

Only applications received before midday (UK time) 25 March 2026 can be considered. You will be required to upload a statement of research interests, CV and details of two referees as part of your online application.
