Postdoctoral Research Assistant - the mechanisms of protein degradation

Location: Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, South Parks Road, Oxford

We are seeking to appoint a well-trained, enthusiastic and self-motivated Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join a dynamic and supportive research group led by Prof. Pedro Carvalho at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology. The project will involve the mechanistic dissection of protein quality control pathways using quantitative cell-based assays, flow cytometry-based and imaging approaches complemented by biochemical and, where appropriate, structural methods.

The successful candidate will be expected to work independently while contributing conceptually to the overall research programme. This will include coordinating multiple aspects of the project, refining working hypotheses in light of new data, and contributing ideas for new research directions. The post-holder will be encouraged to think critically about experimental design, develop and test hypotheses, and integrate data from multiple approaches to address fundamental biological questions.

The post-holder should hold, or be close to completion of, a PhD in molecular/cell biology, biochemistry, structural biology or a related subject. You should have hands-on experience in cell biology techniques, including flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy and image analysis. You should be able to address mechanistic biological questions using rigorous experimental approaches. Good communication skills and a strong publication record are essential.

This is a fixed-term appointment available for up to 2 years. If you are interested in this role, and have the skills and experience we are looking for, please apply online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application. Informal enquiries could be sent to Prof Pedro Carvalho via email: pedro.carvalho@path.ox.ac.uk.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 midday on Friday 1 May 2026. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
