Postdoctoral Research Associate
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Research Associate to join Dr. Joseph Burgoyne’s group at the Rayne Institute, St Thomas’ Hospital, part of King’s College London. Our research is dedicated to uncovering the fundamental mechanisms that maintain cardiovascular health and drive cardiovascular disease, with the ultimate aim of identifying and developing new therapeutic strategies.
The successful candidate will lead research projects investigating novel strategies, discovered within our group, to combat heart failure. The work will integrate studies using isolated cell systems with advanced in vivo models, with a particular focus on characterising newly generated transgenic mouse lines. A key aspect of the work will be translational studies to evaluate new therapeutic strategies identified within our group, directly advancing our understanding of heart failure and accelerating the development of novel interventions.
Applicants must hold a PhD in a biological sciences discipline and demonstrate substantial experience working with animal models of cardiovascular disease, along with strong skills in cell and tissue biology techniques. Additional expertise in vessel myography or redox biology is highly desirable.
Joining our team offers an opportunity to work in an inclusive, dynamic and collaborative environment at the forefront of cardiovascular research, with access to world-class facilities and the opportunity to make a real difference in the development of future heart failure treatments.
This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 30th September 2028.
Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development.
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- PhD in cardiovascular biology, physiology, or a related discipline.
- Expertise in preclinical mouse models of cardiovascular disease.
- Expertise in breeding and characterising transgenic mice.
- Tissue/cell culture experience.
- Broad cell/tissue biology experience, e.g. immunoblotting, primary cell culture, qPCR, and related techniques.
- Motivated and hard-working.
- Ability to integrate with colleagues, work as part of a team and undertake share of group tasks.
- Able to carry out learnt techniques unsupervised.
- Able to plan and prioritise workload and keep clear and well-organised laboratory notes and records.
Desirable criteria
- Expertise in vessel myography
- Expertise in models of heart failure
- Expertise in redox biology
