Position Highlights

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Arizona is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Yan Lab. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Zhifei Yan on projects focused on (photo)electrochemical materials for applications in energy storage, chemical production, and separations. We welcome qualified candidates with backgrounds in chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science to join our interdisciplinary team and contribute to research in these areas. This is a year-to-year appointment, contingent upon continued funding and satisfactory performance.

Duties & Responsibilities

Candidates should possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities to be successful in this position:

  • Familiarity with electrode materials, (photo-)electrochemical techniques, spectroscopy, and surface analytical tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute experiments, analyze data, and critical thinking skills.
  • Track record of publishing in peer-reviewed, high-impact journals.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Conduct research addressing materials challenges in large-scale electrification technologies, including electro catalytic activation of small molecules, fundamental studies of electrode-polymer interfaces, and the design of membrane platforms for critical element separations.
  • Present research findings at conferences and publish results in top-tier journals.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students on projects related to electrochemistry and materials science.
  • Participate in grant writing and proposal development; apply for eligible postdoctoral fellowships.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials sciences, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Selected candidate should have Ph.D. conferred upon hire.
