Postdoctoral Research Associate in Inorganic Chemistry

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Inorganic Chemistry

Department of Chemistry, Chemistry Research Laboratory, 12 Mansfield Road, Oxford, OX1 3TA

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Inorganic Chemistry to work under the supervision of Professor Dermot O’Hare for a period of up to 2 years. The project involves the synthesis of functional polyolefins and is funded by SCG Chemicals PLC, Thailand and lies within the SCG-Oxford Centre of Excellence, which is a multimillion-pound, long-term collaboration between SCG Chemicals PLC and the University of Oxford.

The postholder will undertake the synthesis and characterisation of functional polypropylenes, contributing to the development of materials for advanced, high-value applications. This will include applying expertise in inorganic polymerisation catalysis and organic functional group chemistry, analysing experimental data, and working closely with project partners. The role will also involve contributing to collaborative research activities, including interaction with industrial partners and dissemination of results through publications and presentations.

About you

Applicants must hold a PhD in Chemistry or a relevant subject area, (or be very close to completion) prior to taking up the appointment. The research requires experience in polymer synthesis from both an organometallic catalysis and an organic synthesis and characterisation perspective. You will be expected to manage your own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small-scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines.

The post will be based in the Department of Chemistry and is available as soon as possible.

Application Process

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your application. In your supporting statement (no more than 5 pages), please explain how you meet each of the selection criteria found in the job description.
