The University of Liverpool is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to contribute to an ESA-funded project focused on the detection of millimetre-scale space debris using novel plasma-disturbance sensing techniques. The role sits within the Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics, part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, which has a strong track record in RF systems, radar, and space-related research.
You will play a key role in the design, development, and validation of an L-band phased-array breadboard system for detecting plasma disturbances induced by orbital debris. This includes RF system design, phased-array development, signal processing, and experimental validation using laboratory and plasma-chamber facilities.
You will work closely with academic staff and project partners, contributing to multiple stages of the project including system design, integration, testing, and performance analysis, ultimately supporting the development of a Flight Model Development Plan for future in-orbit demonstration.
Further information about the Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics can be found here.
The post is part-time at 14 hours per week and is available until 31 January 2028.
If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
