Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Study of Computational Technology
The Brown University Program in Science, Technology and Society (STS) invites applications for a two-year position of Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Social Study of Computational Technology. We seek a scholar whose work addresses the historical, social, and cultural significance, impact, and/or trajectory of the “information age,” cybernetics, computing, digital technology, artificial intelligence, and/or the emergence of data-driven methods in the sciences and beyond. The Fellow will be affiliated with STS and will interact with Brown’s world-renowned faculty and students both within and beyond the STS community in a supportive environment focused on community and career development. Applicants in any discipline of the humanities (anthropology, history, sociology, philosophy, literature, language, and the arts) or deploying humanistic methods in Science and Technology Studies, Gender Studies, Media Studies, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will teach one course per year in STS, possibly cross-listed with other units, and be tasked with bringing together humanities, social science, and STEM groups around AI-related scholarship. This would include working with the STS director to organize the program’s colloquium series throughout the year, as well as participating in research and advising activities in the Data Science Institute (DSI) and programming at the Cogut AI humanities lab.
For this position, Brown offers only the J-1 visa classification to scholars who need immigration sponsorship in order to enter the U.S. and commence lawful employment under the terms of their appointment.
