About the opportunity
The University of Sydney’s School of Physics is welcoming applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Neuromorphic encoding for biological neurocomputation. Funded by an Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage Project Grant, this academic position presents an exciting opportunity to collaborate with industry partner Cortical Labs and work closely with Professor Zdenka Kuncic.
As Postdoctoral Research Associate in Neuromorphic encoding for biological neurocomputation you will be involved in developing a physics-aware neuromorphic interface to translate input digital data into brain-like signals delivered to Cortical Labs' biological neurocomputation platform.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- conduct original, high-quality research independently and collaboratively, leading to publications, presentations and impact
- develop and refine independent research skills under the supervision of more senior academic staff
- ensure quality, standards and excellence are maintained in all research activities and outputs
- provide informal mentoring and advice to students within discipline
- carry out administrative tasks in relation to the project and actively participate in project meetings
- interact with students, staff and other members of the University community and project stakeholders in a professional, collegial and respectful manner.
About you

- a PhD (or near completion) in physics, engineering or a closely related field
- strong knowledge and skills in advanced scientific computational techniques and research related software packages
- an understanding of modern scientific computing tools, including high-performance and high-throughput computing environments
- sound scientific skills in the analysis and interpretation of data and published literature
- ability to work independently, under broad direction as well a part of a team contributing strategically to research outcomes, including a demonstrated willingness to liaise with a range of scientists and postgraduate research students
- ability to develop/cultivate productive relationships with industry partners and other key external stakeholders
- ability to assist in the supervision of research students (Honours, Masters and PhD level).
