Postdoctoral Research Associate
A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Joyce Besheer at the Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. One of the research focuses in the lab is on investigation of the neurobiological mechanisms and circuitry underlying alcohol self-administration and relapse, sensitivity to the interoceptive (discriminative stimulus) effects of alcohol, and the study of stress in relation to these behaviors. In addition to the variety of behavioral techniques, projects employ multidisciplinary approaches that include brain region-specific pharmacological manipulations, chemogenetics, and molecular analyses (immunohistochemistry and Western blots).
The postdoc will be actively involved with writing scientific papers and grant proposals, training students in the lab, and presenting data at scientific meetings.
Candidates with a publication history and experience in animal behavior is preferred. The preferred candidate must have strong laboratory, communication, and analytical skills, and work well in a team environment as indicated by letters of reference and peer-reviewed publications.
