POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLAR IN THE PSYCHOLOGY OF ANTISEMITISM

The Department of Psychology at Arizona State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar to research contemporary antisemitism. The position is full-time (100% research), fiscal-year (12-month), benefits-eligible appointments with no tenure implications. Salary range is $62,232 - $75,564 depending on years of previous experience (following NIH postdoctoral salary standards). The anticipated start date is January 12, 2026, but can be flexible if needed.

The Postdoctoral Scholar will be based in the laboratory of Dr. Steven Neuberg and supervised by Drs. Steven Neuberg and Michael Barlev. The laboratory integrates social-cognitive frameworks with evolutionary theory and behavioral ecology to better understand a wide range of phenomena, including stereotyping and prejudices, impression formation, perceptions of threats and opportunities, motivated social-cognitive reasoning, and the effects of physical and social ecologies on perception and behavior. A new initiative led by Drs. Neuberg and Barlev aims to theoretically explain and better predict antisemitism in the U.S. and around the globe.

A Ph.D. in Psychology or a related field by the time of appointment is required. Desired qualifications include strong quantitative skills, excellent oral and written communication abilities, high degree of self-motivation, and evidence of research productivity or strong potential for it. A track record of research on antisemitism is NOT required. Candidates whose research is relevant to any aspect of the psychology of contemporary antisemitism are welcome to apply. This may include social psychology and social cognition (e.g., stereotyping and prejudices, intergroup relations, emotions), moral psychology, political psychology (e.g., group identity, intergroup conflict, radicalization), or any other area likely to lend insights into antisemitism. The ideal candidate will have a proven publication record and a strong interest in and commitment to understanding antisemitism.

The successful candidate will engage with a highly collaborative, productive lab that has had great success placing its graduates into tenure-track faculty positions, and will work within a highly interdisciplinary and entrepreneurial university with a strong representation in functional approaches to psychology and behavior in Psychology as well as the School of Human Evolution and Social Change and the Center for Evolution and Medicine. The position will provide one year of funding, with the possibility of extensions for up to two additional years by mutual agreement.

Essential Functions:

1. Project oversight
2. Theory development; design and implementation of varied research studies (e.g., laboratory experiments, cross-national surveys); data analysis and visualization

4. Co-mentoring graduate and undergraduate students

Required Qualifications:

1. A PhD in Psychology or a related discipline by the time of appointment.

2. Evidence of research productivity or strong potential for it.
3. High degree of self-motivation.
4. A strong interest in and commitment to understanding antisemitism.
5. Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students, and communities to advance the principles of the ASU Charter.
