At the Department of Physiology Anatomy & Genetics (DPAG) we undertake discovery science where we reassemble physiological processes at the molecular, cellular, tissue and systems level of organisation. Overview of the role:

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join Professor Dame Molly Stevens’s laboratory at the Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery. The Stevens Group, within DPAG and affiliated with the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, seeks a skilled bioconjugation chemist with expertise in biomolecule ligation strategies for sensing and therapeutic applications.

This post begins February 2026 for 18 months, with part-time options considered.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design and implement ligation methods for protein labelling in sensing and therapeutics.
  • Synthesize reagents for developed approaches.
  • Perform bioconjugation reactions and characterise biomolecules (proteins, peptides).
  • Develop cross-disciplinary protocols integrating bioconjugation into next-generation applications.
  • Manage research activities and related administration.
  • Contribute actively to the Stevens Group and collaborate externally.

Selection criteria:

  • PhD/DPhil (or near completion) in chemical biology, chemistry, or related field.
  • Experience in organic synthesis, peptide/protein chemistry, and bioconjugation.
  • Proven record of publications/presentations, including first-author peer-reviewed work.
