Description

A Postdoctoral Research Scientist position is available for a highly motivated candidate to work on a new DOE-funded project investigating the response to low doses of radiation in bone marrow stem cells, the target cell type for radiation-induced acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The project will leverage a 3-dimensional organoid model that reproduces key elements of the bone marrow niche to support the growth and function of human blood-forming stem cells, and will compare responses in bone marrow stem cells from healthy donors and donors with clonal hematopoiesis, a defined pre-leukemic condition that may sensitize individuals to radiation-induced leukemia. Endpoints will include changes in cell-type distribution, generation of reactive oxygen species, and both bulk and single-cell RNA-Seq analyses.

Our laboratory is in the Center for Radiological Research (crr.columbia.edu) in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in Upper Manhattan, and the project is a collaboration with investigators in the Columbia Stem Cell Initiative (https://www.stemcell.columbia.edu). This is an outstanding opportunity to work with investigators in leading radiation biology and stem cell laboratories.
