Postdoctoral researcher in Competition Law & Digital Regulation
Job Summary: The Department of TILT (Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology, and Society) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Competition Law & Digital Regulation. The role involves contributing to research projects on the regulation of digital platforms and data. The research focuses on two projects: one on the role of competition law in creative industries (music and gaming), and another on governing data in shared regulatory space, including the implementation of the Digital Markets Act. There is flexibility for the researcher to pursue areas of personal interest.
Responsibilities:
- Independently and jointly pursue path-breaking research leading to excellent publications in double-blind peer-reviewed international journals.
- Be an active member of the department by participating in and organizing events, presenting and discussing research output, and representing the department outside Tilburg University.
- Co-supervise students in writing their Bachelor and/or Master theses in law and read and grade theses on various topics.
- Assist in courses at the Bachelor and/or Master programs that TILT is involved in, for instance by giving guest lectures (up to 0.2 FTE).
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Completed a PhD in Competition Law and/or Digital Regulation (or have a PhD manuscript approved by supervisors).
- Demonstrated interest in the regulation of digital platforms (e.g., Digital Markets Act) and/or data regulation (e.g., Data Act), with preference for work combining several domains.
- Excellent written and spoken command of English, as shown by publications and conference presentations.
- Experience or affinity with working in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Ability to work comfortably in a team, collaborate, share knowledge, and contribute to an open and inclusive work environment.
- Ability to supervise students and grade theses.
- Available to start in January 2026 and present at Tilburg University at least 2 days a week.
What the Employer Offers:
- A fixed-term contract for 30 months.
- Full-time employment (1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week) with a salary between €4,728 and €6,433 gross per month.
