Postdoctoral Researcher in Mechatronics and Robotics

The Biomaterials Engineering research group at the Institute for Biomechanics (IfB), D-HEST, ETH Zurich, develops biomaterials and advanced biomanufacturing systems for in vitro disease modeling. Our group integrates mechanical design, materials science, and bioengineering to build functional 3D organoid systems and reduce reliance on the use of animal models. We are currently seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of a fully automated bioprinting platform, with a focus on hardware design, embedded systems, and real-time feedback integration for closed-loop control. This position is embedded within a multidisciplinary research team at ETH Zurich and offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of engineering and biomedical science.

Job description

  • Design and develop mechanical and electronic subsystems for an automated bioprinting platform
  • Integrate hardware and software systems for coordinated control and automation
  • Develop embedded control systems and support real-time system feedback integration
  • Collaborate with bioengineers to ensure functional compatibility and safe operation
  • Support system validation, documentation, and experimental implementation

Profile

  • PhD in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electronics, or related engineering areas
  • Proficiency in mechanical design, embedded systems, and hardware-software integration
  • Experience with programming languages and exposure to real-time imaging analysis
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration

*Applicants who do not fully meet all listed qualifications but demonstrate strong potential are also encouraged to apply.

Workplace
