Welcome to Maastricht University! We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a background in preclinical animal research, imaging and radiotherapy who is interested in the application of X-ray activated anti-cancer nanohybrids.

Our goal: To develop and validate innovative X-ray activated nanohybrid therapeutics that can open new horizons in cancer treatment.

You will join The M-Lab in the Department of Precision Medicine, embedded in the GROW Research Institute for Oncology and Reproduction. We are an international, multidisciplinary team working at the interface of nanotechnology, imaging, radiotherapy, and oncology.

Your task will focus on the in vitro and in vivo validation studies (work package 2) of novel developed X-ray activated nanohybrids within the recently obtained ScanNanoTreat (SNT) EIC transition grant. Specific tasks are: 1) in vitro evaluation of nanohybrid toxicity and X-ray dose optimization in cancer and healthy cells, 2) optimization of intratumoral administration, in vivo pharmacokinetics, biodistribution and toxicity assessment, and 3) therapeutic efficacy testing. Furthermore, you will be responsible for the daily supervision of (animal) research technicians working on this project.

The position is located in Maastricht, The Netherlands at Maastricht University (www.maastrichtuniversity.nl), within the department of Precision Medicine, The M-lab (https://precisionmedicinemaastricht.eu), embedded in the research institute GROW (https://www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/research/grow-research-institute-for-oncology-and-reproduction).

We are looking for a positive-minded scientist with a PhD, fluent in English – both in writing and speaking. Proven experience with animal research, X-ray based imaging and molecular biology research is required. Having obtained FELASA (working with animals) and TMS-VRS D (working with radiation) accreditation is a must. The candidates must be able to drive their own research agenda and be willing to write and submit grants. We expect you to be able to foster and initiate cooperation and enjoy teamwork in a multidisciplinary environment. In addition, candidates should be able to work independently, willing to perform teaching activities and supervise projects, graduate students and undergraduate interns.

As a Postdoctoral Researcher at Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you: Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 10 according to UFO profile Researcher, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €3546,00 and €5538,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply. An employment contract for a period of 30 months with a scope of 1,0 FTE. At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
