Job Summary

This postdoctoral position involves conducting research on how MBO youths in Groningen use and experience news, developing educational materials for news wisdom programs based on youths' needs, and coordinating a project that connects journalists, youths, teachers, and researchers. The role aims to enhance news literacy for democratic participation among MBO students.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate various studies in the project with the PhD researcher and practice partners.
• Conduct journalistic research resulting in articles published in international scientific journals.
• Organize and execute data collection for sub-projects in Groningen and Stadskanaal.
• Publish research results in international scientific journals.
• Present research to a broad audience, including international colleagues, journalists, and MBO educators.

Qualifications and Requirements

• A completed PhD in journalism studies, media studies, communication science, educational science, social sciences, or humanities.
• Strong research skills, both conceptual and empirical.
• Published relevant studies in international scientific journals.
• Excellent presentation skills to communicate with scientific colleagues, teachers, and journalists.
• Coordination skills to connect stakeholders in a large-scale project.
• Proficiency in Dutch at C1 level and excellent academic writing skills in English.
• Enthusiasm for working with youths in different regions and interest in local journalism.
• Strong social and communicative skills, ability to work in a team, good organizational skills, and perseverance.

What the Employer Offers

• A temporary contract for 24 months at 0.5 FTE.
• Salary ranging from a minimum of €3,546 gross per month in the first year to a maximum of €6,433 gross per month in the last year, based on full-time employment.
• 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
• Intended start date: December 1, 2025.
