Postdoctoral researcher with a recent PhD in (bio)medical physics or (bio)medical engineering
Job Description
Welcome to Maastricht University (UM), where we pioneer innovative technologies that bridge the gap between preclinical research and clinical applications. Within the GROW Research Institute for Oncology and Reproduction, the MAASTRO Physics Research Division advances image-guided precision irradiation and realistic disease modelling.
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will contribute to developments in preclinical CT imaging, precision irradiation, and advanced treatment planning. You’ll work in a dynamic environment collaborating with scientists, engineers, clinicians, and industry partners to shape the future of cancer treatment.
Your Colleagues
You will join a multidisciplinary team of physicists, engineers, biologists, and clinicians working towards advancing precision radiotherapy. Collaborate with senior scientists from Maastricht University and SmART Scientific Solutions BV.
About the Project
Maastricht University is expanding preclinical research facilities with technologies like spectral CT, phase-contrast CT, Flash irradiation, and gated irradiation. The project aims to improve imaging quality and treatment precision in rodent models for translation to clinical trials.
Objectives include developing novel hardware and software for imaging and irradiation, and refining disease models for translational research.
Your Work Will Focus On
- Designing and conducting experimental research on advanced preclinical imaging and irradiation techniques.
- Developing and testing software solutions for imaging and treatment planning.
- Collaborating with physicists, engineers, and biologists.
- Supporting radiobiology research and exploring AI-based methods.
What You Will Do
- Independently carry out experimental and computational research.
- Develop software tools and integrate them into workflows.
- Provide technical expertise for studies.
- Collaborate on technology transfer and present findings.
- Contribute to project organization.
What You Bring
We seek an enthusiastic researcher with a recent PhD in (bio)medical physics or engineering, strong interest in radiotherapy and CT imaging, proven analytical skills, experience in software development, and excellent collaboration skills. Fluency in English is required.
Additional qualities include a proactive attitude, ability to work independently, and a track record of high-quality publications.
What We Offer
Employment at Maastricht University includes a salary of €3546–€5538 per month, an 8.0% holiday allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, flexible hours, partial remote work, 29 vacation days plus 4 public holidays, and opportunities for personal development.
