Position Description
The Smith Lab is seeking to hire a highly motivated postdoctoral scholar interested in the intersection of stem cell biology and tissue engineering (qsmithlab.com). Projects are focused on building in vitro systems to study gastrulation, tissue morphogenesis, and vascularization of stem cell-derived organoid tissues. Implications of this work include elucidating the mechanisms of early embryonic developmental events towards hepatic, vascular and placenta tissues, to appraising the therapeutic efficacy of engineered cellular constructs. Candidates with proficiency in developmental biology, stem cell culture, materials science, and/or microfluidics are highly preferred and should have a Ph.D. in a discipline that reflects these interest areas, with a matched record of peer-reviewed publications. Essential traits include the ability to work in a team environment, and strong oral and communication skills.
Ideal applicants should have expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Biology in vitro methods (i.e., gene expression, flow cytometry, gene editing)
- Stem cell or organoid culture
- Biomaterial synthesis and characterization
- 3D printing/photolithography
- Murine model manipulation and characterization
The trainee will work in a collaborative environment with access to resources such as the Integrated Nano systems Research Facility (INRF) and the Sue and Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center (SCRC).
Interested candidates should send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and contact information for at least 3 references through our online recruiting system.
