Offer Description
The Department of Economics and Social Sciences, Institute of Sustainable Economic Development is currently seeking a Postgraduate Research Associate (temporary replacement).
Extent of employment: 20 hours per week
Duration of employment: from 19th of September 2026, for the time being until the end of maternity leave (with the option to extend the employment for the duration of parental leave)
Workplace: 1180 Vienna
Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1
Gross monthly salary: (depending on previous eligible experience) at least: € 1.888,10 (payable 14 times per year)
Responsibilities
- Independent research and participation in research projects in the field of agricultural and environmental sociology, preferably on decision-making dynamics in agricultural and forestry family farms, farmers' behavior and social expectations
- Development and application of qualitative and quantitative social science methods with networking to other working groups of the institute and department
- Acquisition and management of competitively acquired national and international research projects
- Publishing research results in national and international scientific journals
- Independent teaching in the lnstitute's subject areas, with a focus on theories and concepts of rural, agricultural and environmental sociology as weil as qualitative and quantitative methods of empirical social research in German and English
- Participation in the supervision of qualification theses
- Participation in the self-administration of the university, the department, the institute and the environmental and agricultural sociology working group
- Knowledge transfer and engagement in the Third Mission
Required skills and qualifications
- Diploma degree in e.g., rural sociology, agricultural sociology, environmental sociology or other equivalent university degree
- Language skills: Excellent written and spoken German and English; knowledge of other languages is a plus (e.g., Spanish, French)
- ln-depth knowledge of rural, agricultural, and environmental sociology in the Central European context
- An outstanding publication record, as well as national and international visibility and recognition, particularly in the research topics described above
- Experience in applying qualitative and quantitative methods of empirical social research
- A passion for excellence in teaching
- Experience in designing and conducting courses
Desirable skills and qualifications
- Ability to work both in a team and independently
- Experience collaboratingwith interdisciplinary research groups
- International research and teaching experience
- Creativity in developing new ideas for research and teaching
- Experience in securing and managing projects
- Knowledge of the sociology of family farms in the Central European context
