Offer Description
The University of Alcalá is offering one full-time predoctoral research position associated with the research project PID[contact details available in the full listing]OB-I00, entitled "Intelligent Geolocation Network Based on Lighting Infrastructure for Resilient Buildings".
The project is funded by the Spanish State Research Agency (Agencia Estatal de Investigación) within the 2025 call for Knowledge Generation Projects under the Spanish State Plan for Scientific, Technical and Innovation Research 2024-2027.
Principal Investigators: Álvaro de la Llana Calvo and José Luis Lázaro Galilea.
Department: Electronics.
Research line: Positioning and communication through visible light.
The successful candidate will carry out research activities including:
- Computational modelling of optical channels in degraded atmospheres using Ray-Tracing algorithms.
- Experimental characterisation of optical signals in an instrumented smoke chamber.
- Development of indoor positioning algorithms based on sensor fusion using Visible Light Positioning (VLP) and Inertial Measurement Units (IMU).
- Design and optimisation of embedded artificial intelligence models (TinyML) for passive people detection.
- Validation of sensing and positioning technologies in operational pilots and emergency drills.
- Preparation of technical documentation, scientific articles and contributions to research conferences.
CONTRACT CONDITIONS
Number of positions: 1
Contract type: Predoctoral contract pursuant to Article 21 of Spanish Law 14/2011 of 1 June on Science, Technology and Innovation.
Duration: 4 years.
Working time: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week.
Gross annual salary: EUR 25,456.10.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must:
- Be pre-enrolled or enrolled in a PhD programme.
- Not hold a PhD degree.
- Hold a university Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electronics or a related field.
