Department of Preventive, Occupational, and Aerospace Medicine
Preventive Medicine Fellowship
Program Open Position: [contact details available in the full listing]
Mayo Clinic's two-year, ACGME-accredited Preventive Medicine Fellowship prepares physicians for meaningful careers in preventive medicine and public health. The program combines MPH coursework with hands-on training in public and population health, quality improvement, epidemiology, health policy, occupational medicine, and preventive clinical services.
The program begins with orientation and clinical rotations in Rochester followed by specialized MPH study through the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. The majority of coursework is online with minimal travel to Minneapolis required. The second year engages fellows in clinical preventive medicine rotations and public health practice. Mentorship is provided to meet each fellow's interests and career goals. Each fellow must complete at least one original research study and pursue national presentation and publication.
Training is individually tailored to meet career goals. Through experiential learning, progressive responsibility, and participation in clinical, educational, research, and administrative activities, fellows gain the tools and strategies to practice in a variety of preventive medicine careers. Graduates from our fellowship have found successful careers in public health, healthcare leadership, healthcare administration, clinical occupational medicine, clinical lifestyle medicine, research, and medical education.
To qualify for the Preventive Medicine fellowship, you must have completed at least three years of accredited residency training and be board-eligible or board-certified in internal medicine or family medicine. Applicants who already hold an MPH degree are eligible for a one-year fellowship position.
Two positions are available for the 2027-2028 academic year.
